I see lots of people checking in on the board but no new topics... so here's one.
What's everyone doing for training this time of year?
I will be racing in TX March 20-21 in the Fayetteville Stage race. 46 mile RR, 6.6 TT , and then a 49 mile RR.
While I've been doing a new 1hr interval training DVD to build speed and power, my off days are now filled with about 2hrs on the trainer. I'm doing several sets of one legged pedaling which isn't fun.
Anyway, the Twin Bing is coming up soon. What are you doing to get ready?

....praying for warm weather, the rides outside are a bit chilly but it breaks up the monotony of spin classes. Although, word has it that we will be approaching 40 by the end of the week!
Anyone else try Pilates? It hurt like hell the first two weeks or so, but I think it is going to pay off as time goes by...

Outside riding on mountain bike in the evenings past few nights. Getting yelled at, honked at, flipped off.... NOT the usual for end of season type of training, but to be expected from those not exactly watching out for a bike coming at them kamikaze-style in the dark with a very obnoxious light in their eyes when it's 32 degrees outside. Finally remembering what momentum feels like though makes me happy i must say!
Training has consisted of long methodical rides on the trainer, 30min-1hr interval stuff, light weight lifting, heavy weight lifting, cross training (such as running and stair workouts) and salsa dancing to help me stay light on the bike....
Basically NEVER doing enough.... thinking/hoping i'll have some gas in the tank once the road bike hits the pavement, though most likely gonna be disappointed despite my efforts. It's all good though.... we crazies can't wait to get in a big group and see how much pain we can endure together.... it's just the way we're wired. See Ya'll soon!

Alan B, a new CPC cat 5 from Milbank, and I rode 20 miles yesterday... we did some hill repeats on Marvin hill. It felt good to be out on the road but still a bit cool. Alan road outside on Sat in the light rain. He figured he was a bit crazy when he met 4 guys riding snowmobiles.

I also made it outside Friday. I felt the need to actually move on a bike I was pedaling; I am getting the cabin fever. I made it 25 miles. Going with the wind was not bad, but going against the wind got the chill down to 20 degrees and that was draining. These are the efforts I need to have one of you young pups out in front making my life easier for me so that it seems like I'm riding well. We had the rain Saturday and Sunday, so I didn't chance a second ride - even though the temps were slightly better Sunday.
I have been trying to do intervals three times a week: a mix of sprint and steady state. Now I'll try to do all my training in a harder resistance to build for the 11th.
Ryan, let me know the next time you want to go outside - I think my shame will get me on the road too.

I too made it outside this weekend. I was able to get in an hour on Friday and then 1.5 hours on Sunday. It was great to be out, but boy did it tell me how out of shape I really am when the road turns uphill. I feel a lot more power on the bike due to a winter of heavy lifting, but the power is very short lived due to my current limited aerobic capacity....oh and the weight....
Riding outside was a big moral booster though and now have a a renewed drive to keep on training. For those of you that are counting down, there are only 33 days before the first race on April 11th.......that is only 33 rides, and of those, not all of them can be warm sunny days.......

I have been outside as well. I had to take a month off of cardio due to knee issues with my IT band but am feeling better. I was out on Monday and did a little over 50 out by Kalo's house and felt great. I trained like a mad man over the winter and am going into this season 55 pounds lighter than I went into last season and about 20 less than I was at the end of last season. I am going outside everyday from here on out as long as its not raining/snowing so get a hold of me.

2.5 hours of hill repeats today. I am riding outside daily from here on out if anyone would care to join me. I decided to ride whether its raining or sleeting from now on. We live in the wrong location to be a bunch of fair weather cry babies and need to get after it if we want to win races. My weekend rides will be shorter but more intense due to weekend work and my internship. My weekday rides will be longer, evolving into centuries shortly. My number is 605-521-3170 so please call.
